GUIDELINES
BLEED - What is Bleed?

Bleed is the bit of the picture or background that extends beyond the edges of the page so that when we trim your leaflet there isn’t a white line showing. Any artwork item that is meant to reach to the edge of the page should extend beyond the edge of the leaflet by 5mm. See the diagram to the right here.

WORKING AREA - What Working Area Can I Use?

Unless you are using bleed, it is advisable to keep a small margin between the outer edge of your artwork and the inner edge of the page. Always keep text at least 5mm in from the edge of the leaflet. See the diagram to the right here.

RESOLUTION - What About Image Resolution?
Pictures (sometimes referred to as bitmaps) should be saved in TIFF or JPEG format. They should be 300dpi – any less and quality will suffer – any more and your file will be unnecessarily large.
COLOUR HANDLING - CMYK or RGB?
We print in CMYK, please save in this format, if you send us RGB images we will have to convert them which can lead to unexpected changes in colour. It can also incur an extra charge.

FILE FORMATS - What Types of File Should I Supply?
All of our great prices are based on artwork supplied as press-ready PDF files. If you would like any help in producing your PDF please don't hesitate to contact us - we are here to help!

Use Adobe acrobat to create your pdf, some programs have the ability to export to PDF, but check the settings as below. Alternatively you could try www.cutepdf.com where you can download a free tool to create PDFs.

There are three tips to creating the best PDFs for printing:

  1. Embed all fonts - check in acrobat or your artwork program to see if all the fonts have been embedded.
  2. Crop Marks - when you create the pdf please ensure that you have crop marks selected, this means we know where you want your work trimmed. Don't worry about bleed marks, registration marks etc, we will add these here.
  3. Bleed - bleed is the extra bit of background that extends beyond the edge of the paper. It is important to make the trimmed edge look neat, please see our artwork explanation page or ring for help if you are not sure!

We can convert various file formats to PDF for you from programs such as Word, Publisher, Coreldraw etc., please see the conversion section below.
